Atkinson, John W.
John Wayne Atkinson, of Durham, passed away at the Hanover and District Hospital on Tuesday, February 11th, 2020 in his 71st year. Beloved husband of Tracy-Lynn Schaus-Atkinson. Loving father of Shirley Anne and her husband Steve Lair, John Atkinson and his wife Megan, Bill Atkinson, Zakk Atkinson and his fiancée Ashley, Jarrett Atkinson, and Clarissa Atkinson. Fondly remembered by his 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Shirley Atkinson, Bruce Atkinson and his wife Alice, George Atkinson and his wife Carol, David Atkinson, Jim Atkinson and his wife Marg, and Ellen and her husband Ken Russwurm. Predeceased by his father Jack Atkinson, his mother Aveon Atkinson-Reay, his stepfather Albert Reay, and his sisters-in-law Marion Atkinson and Heather Atkinson. John was known by many as “the Mudman” from his drywalling days and as “Schultz” by his Abate friends.
Celebration of Life::
As per John’s wishes cremation will take place and a celebration of his life will follow in the spring once the bikes are back on the road.
