Antonio Mastroianni Sunday February 9th 2020

It is with great sadness, and an immense feeling of loss that the family Antonio Mastroianni (L’Argentino) announce his passing the day after his 73rd birthday, on February 9th, 2020. Tony battled a debilitating and crippling illness for the past 2 years, always insisting that he was fine and refused to complain of any pain or discomfort. Tony is reunited with his parents Pasquale and Luisa Mastroianni, and all his siblings Francesca, Giuseppina, Natalina, Vincenzo and Domenico (all predeceased) in heaven. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Lucrezia Battistina Mastroianni (Rocca). Battistina took immaculate and passionate care of her husband, and best friend at home throughout most of his illness with the appreciated support of family, friends, and the caring staff of Bayshore while at home, and Maison McCulloch Hospice during Tony’s last two and a half weeks. A heart felt thanks to the amazing, caring, and wonderful staff at the hospice. He also leaves behind his strongest legacies, his daughter Luisa Cimino (husband Joe), and son Adriano Mastroianni (wife Jenna DeMarco). His love, gentle spirit and generosity will never be forgotten by his “sweeties”, his granddaughters Vanessa and Vania Cimino. Tony will also be missed by his father-in-law Giovanni Rocca, mother-in-law Anna Rocca (predeceased), sister-in-law Pina Mastroianni (husband Antonio), brother-in-law Francesco Rocca (wife Luisa) in Italy, and the numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, paisans, and friends in Canada, Argentina, and Italy. Tony left Argentina where he was raised from pre-school age to go back to Italy where he met and married the love of his life Battistina. Together in 1976, they took on the daunting challenge of starting a new life together in Canada in order to create a better life, not just for them, but also more importantly for their future offspring. He was proud of his accomplishment of learning the cement finishing and tile setting trades. He worked hard for various companies in town, but found most rewarding the fact that he ended his career by operating his own successful business for over a decade. Tony enjoyed to work and provide for his family, but loved more to spend time with his loved ones. Briscola and Scopa were his card games of choice, and passed a lot of time playing at the Caruso Club, at the bar in Acquafredda, Calabria, or at various friends’ homes. Tony also enjoyed the outdoors, barbequing, playing bocce at Delki Dozzi and Robinson playgrounds, working in his vegetable garden or fishing. His true happiness was evident when taking trips with his family to Argentina, Italy, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and within Canada. His joking, out going, fun, and caring personality will never be forgotten by those who knew him. God bless you marito, papa, nonno, and, amico. We take comfort in knowing that you will forever be looking down on us with pride. We love you, and you will always be in our hearts.
