Andrew lived his life full of passion; passion expressed through his creative flair, love of learning, and sense of adventure. Exploration of these passions was encouraged and supported throughout his life by family and friends alike. Andrew followed his dreams and never hesitated to broaden his horizons.
His innate ability to relate to an audience made him a successful debater at Youth Parliament, a talented actor in local theatre groups, and a colourful performer at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival. He excelled in making meaningful connections with young kids, senior citizens, business executives, and people living on the street alike. He gave generously of his time and attention, without hesitation or judgement.
After graduating from Springfield Collegiate Institute, Red River College and the University of Winnipeg Andrew jumped at the opportunity to move abroad for a teaching job in South Korea. His original one-year plan was extended with each new job and promotion. The decision to establish himself there was solidified after he met Jiyeon (Janine) Seo and she said ‘yes’ to his marriage proposal –underwater whilst SCUBA diving in Egypt, no less. They maintained strong ties with their biological and chosen families regardless of geography and expanded their own with their beloved dogs Mong and Coco.
Andrew earned a master’s degree in the TESOL (Teaching English to speakers of other languages) Department at the Sookmyung Women’s University and was passionate about his career as Assistant Professor at the Korea Aerospace University.
With loving wife Jiyeon at his side physically; parents Werner and Gail, and sister Denise at his side virtually; and family and friends around the world holding him tightly in their hearts, Andrew departed us much too soon on December 14, 2020. It was the height of the Geminid meteor shower and the perfect night to catch a ride on a shooting star.
