Toof, Allen:
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allen George Toof at the age of 78 after several months of declining health. He died as he lived, peacefully with his loving wife and daughters by his side.
Allen is survived by the love of his life, Mona, to whom he was married for 56 years and his daughters Sandy Kadwell (Scott) of Oakville and Sue Filiatrault (Dave Seguin) of Glen Allan. He was a proud Grandpa to Connor and Lauren Kadwell and Lindsay and Shelby Filiatrault.
Born in Brantford in 1942, Allen moved to Kitchener in 1967 to start an Office Equipment business. He continued in this field until he retired at the early age of 52.
Allen was always up for an adventure. Selling the family home 24 years ago, he and Mona took off in their RV spending winters in Florida and summers in their beloved Port Elgin. One of his favourite places to explore was Walt Disney World where he and Mona spent at least a month each year.
Allen could fix anything. It was said that he could probably do brain surgery if he had the right book. He was a talker. He loved to meet new people and bend their ear with his thoughts on life and share his opinion on the best way to do whatever.
While some may have viewed Allen as eccentric those that knew him well felt his unconditional love and his desire to help anyone in need. He lived his life on his own terms. He left us the same way, on the day, the hour and the minute that he believed was pre-determined by a higher power.
The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Grand River Cancer Clinic and the Grand River ICU, especially IUC A Nurse Courtney.
Arrangements entrusted to the Henry Walser Funeral Home 507 Frederick St. 519-749-8467. Private cremation has already taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Grand River Hospital Foundation – Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
