Albert Knight
February 25, 1926 – July 04, 2020
Passed peacefully away on July 4, 2020, with his family by his side, Albert Knight, 94, of Shoe Cove, NL. Predeceased by parents John & Alfreda (Dawe) Knight; brothers William, Walter, John, Maxwell, Weston; sisters Lydia (Jean), Mary, Marjorie. Leaving behind with fond and loving memories, his wife of 72 years, Mildred; daughters Geraldine, Shirley (Bill Butler), Barbara, Vera, Janet (Steve Grace), and son Owen (Norma); sister Vera Staubitzer; grandchildren Warren (Lisa), Kim, Camilla, Billy (Laurie), Darrell (Kelly), Lori (Jason), Andrew, Tommy (Lisa), Nancy, Clem (Valerie), Heather (Albert), Roger (Amanda), Sam, Max; 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Dad was a dedicated family man; he was a man of high morals, integrity and honesty. Dad, along with mom, helped who they could without hesitation and dad would often say to us when we would visit “Do you need anything? Take what you want!” Dad was always interested in what the grandchildren and great grandchildren were doing in their lives and where they were travelling. He never forgot these things and never forgot to ask. What a wonderful mind! Dad’s humor and storytelling will be remembered in our family for generations to come; always saying funny things and sharing stories of years ago. As well, many a funny story was told of him as well. His humor was evident almost to the end.
Dad was a hard-working man who along with mom, raised a family of 6 when times were hard – but we never went without. He was a great mechanic – if dad fixed it you knew it was done right. And you were not getting out of the driveway without getting your doors greased! Dad was also a bit of an inventor, and over the years had many great ideas, some of which were complicated and detailed. Our dad left school when he was in grade 5 to work and help support his family, however, he was a very intelligent man – he was continuously learning. We often said that if dad had continued his education, he could have been anything he wanted to be.
We were lucky to have our dad for so long – a luxury not afforded to many and we will each carry a heavy heart forever because of his absence. As dad would always say upon ending a visit or a telephone call – “Good Luck!” – well dad, “Good Luck” on your final journey home.
Our family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Health Science Center, 4 South B for their care and compassion – what wonderful people you are, and Rev. Bill Bartlett, hospital chaplain, for your comforting words and prayer. Also, neighbor John Durdle, for helping our father in his time of need.
As per dad’s request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service for family will be held at a later date.
