Aileen Perkins
1928-2020
Aileen Claire Perkins, age 91, of Northwood Centre, Halifax,
NS, formerly of Garden Suites, New Glasgow, NS, passed away quietly,
surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. Born on April
4, 1928 in Sydney NS, she was a daughter of the late Urban and Gladys
(McCormick) Pineau.
Aileen is survived by daughters: Marlene (Eric) LeBlanc,
Shediac NB; Betty (Norman) MacKay, Fort MacMurray AB; sons: Robert,
Dallas, TX; Douglas (Jocelyn), Porter’s Lake, NS; Gary
(Jenny), Coldstream, BC; Eric (Trudy), Mount Uniacke, NS; Leo
(Jeannette), Victoria, BC; Kevin, Bedford, NS; daughter-in-law: Wanda,
Cambridge Station, NS; sisters: Phyllis Pitts, Dartmouth, NS;
Marguerite Ryan, Valley, NS; Miriam (Frank) Cormier, Antigonish, NS;
brothers: Douglas (Mary), London, ON; Winston (Mary) Charlottetown,
PE; 19 grandchildren and 20
great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Lawrence,
oldest son, Carl, daughter-in-law, Ann and sister,
Elizabeth.
Besides her unwavering dedication to her large family, Aileen
was passionate about baking, knitting, crocheting and crafts. Through
the years, she enjoyed time at the family camp in Sherbrooke NS, the
annual camping excursions and travel to such places as London UK,
Qatar, Texas, British Columbia, Florida and Niagara
Falls.
Her family will miss her famous biscuits, apple crisp and
peanut butter cookies. They will also miss her seemingly endless
supply of homemade socks, hats and afghans.
Visitation will be Monday, March 2, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and
Tuesday, March 3, from 9-10 am in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55
Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March
3 at 11 am at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 390 High
St., New Glasgow, with Fr. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial will be in
the Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. Donations in
Aileen’s memory may be made to Diabetes Canada, the Canadian
Downs Syndrome Society, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian
National Institute for the Blind.
