Donald Malcolm Folsetter Monday December 9th 2019

Folsetter, Donald Malcolm- born July 21, 1936, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 9, 2019 after a short stay in the Hamilton General Hospital. Don was born to parents Don and Betty Folsetter (nee Scott). Predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Yvonne Folsetter (nee Wale) and his lifetime partner Heather Rossi. Don was born in Brantford, Ontario and was an only child.
Don is survived by his children, Douglas (Marnie) Folsetter, Heather (Charles) Hollis, and his stepdaughter Jennifer Rossi, and by 5 grandchildren, Kate, Aeriel, Zoe, Hunter and Brady.
Don defined himself as a pilot, he worked at Loblaws to pay for his flying lessons. Once he earned his pilots license, he began to teach flying at Mount Hope Airport, which he did for many years. He then attained his Commercial Pilots license and began to fly for Canadian Pacific Airlines. This journey took him to the west coast where he flew out of Vancouver and then into the Yukon and NWT. After many years on the west coast, Don moved back to be based in Toronto, where he and Yvonne bought a house in Burlington to raise their children. Don continued to fly out of Toronto for many years, travelling the world. His favourite spots included Holland, Italy, the Orient and South America. Don flew the DC-3, DC-6, DC-8, DC-10 and retired from Canadian Airlines flying the 747. When he flew the 747, he was based in YVR (Vancouver) and travelled to the Orient. He loved Hong Kong and Thailand. Don was always talking about his travels and the many people he met over the years. His other love was sailing. One of Donʼs boats was built in his front yard. His love of the skies and the sea was amazing.
Don had lived at the Village of Wentworth Heights in Hamilton from May of 2017, until November 27, 2019. Don was there so that he could watch the planes flying into Mount Hope. Before moving back to Hamilton, Don split his time between Wasaga Beach and Fort Myers, Florida.
Don will be missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2020. Thank you to the staff at the Village of Wentworth Heights for taking care of dad over the last couple of years. Thank you also to the doctors and nursing staff at the Hamilton General Hospital, Neurosurgery Department (7W).
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Heart and Stroke foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
