David Whitlock passed away at home on December 9, 2019. No one knew the full extent of his internal struggles and pain. Outwardly Dave wore his heart on his sleeve; the most devoted father and husband, he cherished and was so proud of his family. Dave was vibrant and friendly and loved instantly by all who met him. He gave love without limits and in turn was loved back by so many. Yet, his silent struggles with mental illness drove him to end his life by suicide. Dave, cherished son of Martin and Yvonne Whitlock, was born in Sheffield, England and emigrated with his family to Canada at the age of two. In his youth, he devoted himself to his beloved younger brother Richard Whitlock. His admiration and love for his brother never wavered. From a young age, David loved cars and filled sketch books with his detailed childhood drawings. He was a fountain of knowledge about anything to do with cars and his classic 1969 Chevelle was a continuous labour of love for over 20 years.Dave’s passion for fitness and bodybuilding was lifelong and reflected in his daily dedication to the gym. The people he met at the gym became some of his closest friends and confidantes. Dave built a successful career at Dana Canada as an engineering technologist, spanning 21 years. He was the guy with the answers and the guy who gave everything of himself to solve problems and make things happen. He loved his coworkers, and after giving up his career to raise his family in 2016, he would often visit; he always wished he could visit more. Dave had never thought children would be in his future, but when he met Laura and Wesley in 2013, he learned the indescribable combinations of joy, wonder, unconditional love and sleep-deprivation, doubt and inadequacy that parenting brings. He became a devoted father and loved his three children, Wesley, Markus and Shelby beyond belief. Dave was a thoughtful, loving and dedicated husband and best friend to his wife, Laura. His nieces and nephews Nicola, Curtis, Annika, Elise and Cecilia, and Elda and Jack, will miss his hugs and teasing. Dave developed very close relationships and was loved dearly by his in-laws, the entire Ritchie, Breen and Borsellino families. Dave will be missed forever by his whole family and many, many friends. Memorial visitation will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home – «William J. Markey Chapel», 947 Rymal Road East, HAMILTON (905.574.0405) on Sunday, December 15th from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
