Cameron, Daphne Alice – Middleton, N.S. August 1, 1922 – December 11, 2019. At age 97, Mom passed away peacefully at Heart of the Valley with her family close at hand. Born in Greenwich, England, Mom immigrated to Toronto, Canada as a baby with her parents, now deceased, Dorothy Daisy (Dawson) and George Robert Edward Macfarlane. Mom had the gift of music and spent her career singing and playing her electric guitar both overseas and in Toronto and Halifax. During the second world war, Mom joined the troupe of Lever Brothers Lifebuoy Follies and entertained troops in England, Holland, Belgium and France. On her return home to Toronto, she continued her musical career under the pseudonym of Rae Todd, appearing regularly on the Tommy Hunter show and Country Hoedown. Mom played nightly in numerous lounge settings in Toronto and Halifax, including the Sam Slick Room at the Chateau Halifax and Oak Island Inn. Mom moved to Nova Scotia in 1974 and made her home in Nine Mile River and later in Elmsdale. Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by her sisters Julia and Doris and her husbands Cyril William (Bill) Proctor and Douglas Alexander Cameron. Mom is survived by her daughters Colleen Ann (Proctor) McGill (Jim), Brooklyn, Annapolis County and Wendy Heather (Cameron) Smith (Richard), Enfield along with numerous nieces and nephews. After she retired Mom continued to entertain family and friends at numerous celebrations and also sang We’ll Meet Again each Remembrance Day at Heart of the Valley. The family wishes to thank, with all our hearts, the caring staff at Heart of the Valley for making Mom’s final years comfortable and entertaining.
