Clifford R.’s Obituary
Clifford Robert Canning, long time resident of the Dixonville/Peace River (AB) area, passed away in Peace River on November 29, 2019 at the age of 94 years.
Dad was a truck driver, farmer, carpenter and general helper to anyone who needed a hand. He was always looking after all of his girls, his baby sister, Margie, and her family too. That’s just who he was.
Dad’s biggest joy came from his family, especially the great grandchildren. He was extremely proud of all of us and was able to keep tabs on most of the grandchildren. He might not have remembered all of their names but asked about everyone: the « nurse », the « chuckwagon driver », the 2 granddaughters that were « truck drivers » at one time, as well as the families of everyone and was everyone still working, still together, etc.
Trips north to the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Alaska were favorite memories, along with numerous trucking adventures.
If Dad could tease someone and make them smile, it made his day. He enjoyed teasing staff and friends at the Heritage Towers as well as all of his descendants.
Clifford is predeceased by his parents, Judson & Blanche Canning; step-dad, Harry Beebe; brothers, Gordon & Howard; sister in laws, Doris (Gordon), Janice (Howard), Irene (Harold); first wife, Peggy; second wife, Anne; daughter, Colleen (Sarka); & grandsons, Christopher Raven & Brody Hrynyk. Clifford is survived by his brother, Harold Canning; sister, Margie (Jim) Sorensen; daughters, Cathy (Claude) Routhier, Susan Bongo (Juan Carlis), Margaret (Carey) Barnowski, Janet Canning; 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for the Summer of 2020 in Dixonville, AB. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Central Grove Cemetery in Dixonville, AB.
