Wong, Anthony Yew Wing passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 27, 2019 at St. Michael’s Care Centre in Burnaby, BC at the age of 80.
He is survived by his wife Gabriella, sons, Patrick (Constantiannya) Wong, Stephen (Kathleen) Wong, Geoffrey (Teresa) Wong, Justin (Tara) Wong, and grandchildren, Anthony, Crystal, Allyssa and Callum. He is also survived by his sole remaining brother Frank (Suzanna) Wong, nephews Dennis Jr Wee, Jonathan Wee, Kevin Wong and niece Adrienne Wee.
Tony, as known to all, was born in Hong Kong on September 7, 1939 and was the eldest of four boys to Anthony and Rosemary Wee. In 1959, he came to Vancouver to pursue his post-secondary education. He studied and earned his engineering degree at the University of British Columbia which eventually turned to a lifelong career in teaching computer programming at BCIT, Burnaby Campus. He married Gabriella in 1967 and they had the first of their own four boys in 1968.
All the while educating and mentoring the computer geniuses of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s, he strived to be a good family man and to instill good values in his four boys. Aside from family and career, he had a passion for watching sports and testing his luck (and theories) at the local blackjack and craps tables. Tony will always be remembered for his kind heart and gentle ways.
Prayers will be offered Monday, December 2, 2019, 7:00pm at St. Michael’s Parish located at 9387 Holmes Street, Burnaby with Fr. Rossi, celebrant.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2019, 11:00am, at St. Michael’s Parish, 9387 Holmes Street, Burnaby with Fr. Rossi officiating.
A Consolation Feast will be hosted by the family at Joyful Seafood Restaurant at 150 – 5665 Kingsway, Burnaby, BC at 2:00pm following the Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael’s Care Center located at 7451 Sus Avenue, Burnaby, BC (stmichaels.bc.ca/donations) and Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation 330 East Columbia Street, New Westminster, BC (rchfoundation.com).
