Obituary of Pegie Lyell
LYELL, Margaret “Pegie”
July 21 – 1943 – November 13, 2019
Pegie passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, surrounded by her family. She suffered a stroke on Sunday afternoon at RUH, in Saskatoon.
Pegie leaves behind her son Kevin, daughter Alana and son in-law Andreas Zafeiriou. Also her siblings Betty (Elwood Hart), Bob (Dot Dunlop), Gord (Shirley Dunlop) and Sharon (Bob Grocholski), as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family.
Pegie was predeceased by her loving husband ‘Stan’ (James Stanley Lyell), her parents Joseph and Eileen Dunlop, and her mother and father in law, Gladys and Fred Lyell.
Pegie loved her family; her husband Stan was the love of her life and Kevin and Alana were her sun and moon. She was also extremely close with her siblings and their spouses and extended families. Pegie was always supportive and loving to everyone and was the one person that family would talk to if they needed. She had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. She was an entertainer, in every sense of the word.
One of Pegie’s proudest accomplishments in life, was becoming a teacher and influencing the lives of children for 27 years. Peg had many talents including playing the organ and piano (a talent inherited from her Dad), as well as a passion for needlework. She also loved spending summers at the cabin at Blackstrap and travelling the world when the opportunities were presented. Pegie loved cards and games and in later life, became an avid bridge player. Along with her main bridge partner and friend Patsi, she enjoyed achieving her Life Masters in Contract Bridge. Special thank you to the doctors and nurses at RUH for their special care and attention.
A Celebration of Peg’s life will be held on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 1:00 pm, at Saskatoon Funeral Home, 338 4th Ave. N). Anyone wishing to join the family in celebrating Peg’s life is welcome to attend. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
