Obituary
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Marie at the age of 90 years. She passed away peacefully at the Southwood Care Centre in Calgary surrounded by family. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Bill Owens, her son Dean Owens, and her great-grandson Theo Goodkey. She leaves behind her children; Greg Owens (Valerie), Brenda Hemstock (Chris), Mary-Ann Owens (Ian Watson), Susan Owens, William John Owens, her fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Marie was born in Hanna Alberta, raised on the farm near Leslieville, Alberta and moved to Hamilton, Ontario during WWII. She returned to Hanna where she married the love of her life Bill Owens in 1948 and finally moved to Calgary in 1959 where she continued her career in Beauty Culture. She earned her teaching degree from the University of Calgary in 1971 and then taught Beauty Culture at Shaughnessy Vocational school and at Doctor EP Scarlett for many years before retiring in 1985. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at St. Bonaventure Church (1600 Acadia Dr SE) on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 7:00 pm Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 11:00 am The family wishes to thank the staff at Southwood Care Centre on Heritage Drive for their loving care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Kidney Foundation.
