MARIAN MARTENS
With great sadness we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother at Health Sciences Centre on Sunday evening November 10, 2019 at the age of 73 years.
She is survived by her husband Henry, daughter Sharon (Brad), son Don, granddaughters Kailee and Delange; one sister and four brothers. She was predeceased by one brother.
Marian was born in Winkler Hospital April 18, 1946, attended school in Winkler and Calgary. Marian trained for becoming an LPN at Red River Community College in Winnipeg. She worked as a nurse in Winkler Hospital. After she married Henry and moved to Winnipeg, she worked as a medical receptionist in Medical Clinic, also EKG technician till retirement.
The last couple of years, she had medical problems: after stomach surgery, (which didn’t work at all), Marian had a feeding tube put in. She lost her ability to walk, lost 100% of her hearing, after having a cochlear implant. She had trouble swallowing and was diagnosed with a case of Mitochondrial Disease. She was wheelchair ridden. Eventually she required full homecare with her husband Henry the main care-giver.
Earlier, Marian and the family did some traveling in Hawaii, Florida, Mexico. Marian did love being at home, did a lot of reading and spent time on her tablet.
God bless and thanks to all people involved.
