We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of a loving husband, father, grandpa, uncle and friend, on Sunday, November 3, 2019. He passed away from complications due to cancer.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Carol, his daughters, Sheri (Mike), Danielle (Dave) and his grandchildren, Sydney, Nicolas and Chelsea, his siblings Tom (Lorraine) Tardi, Joe (Nell) Tardi, Gerry (Joan) Tardi, Bob (Eleanor) Tardi, Kathy Fowler, and his sister-in-law Madeleine Tardi, as well as Carol’s sisters, Mary Jane Kiceluk, Michele (Hans) Jensen, Sue (Jay) Little. Pre-deceased by sister-in-law Barbara (Ted) Stefiuk.
Jim was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, February 5th, 1942, the youngest son and second youngest of 13 children. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science Degree and went on to become a Laboratory and X-ray Technologist. Married in 1965, 3 years later, Jim and Carol moved from Winnipeg to Vancouver, eventually settling in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island in 1973 with their daughters, Sheri and Danielle, and Carol’s mom, Nettie Kiceluk.
Jim had a variety of careers from Lab and X-ray to custom cabinetry. Jim enjoyed curling, playing old-timers hockey, fishing, camping, skiing, golfing and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching hockey, football, baseball and curling with his family and attending BC Lions and Canucks games. Jim and Carol’s passion for travel took them to such destinations as New York, Boston, Las Vegas, California, Florida and Cuba. A highlight for Jim was taking their daughters, their spouses and grandchildren on a Disney Cruise celebrating he and Carol’s 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2015. Seeing Elvis at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas with Carol was a close second.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Adelard and Jessie (nee Frostiak), his siblings, Martina Hogue, Louise Neydli, Anita Haacke, Ed Tardi, Ray Tardi, Roland Tardi and Alex Tardi.
Jim’s Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 10th, 2019 at Bowen Park Auditorium, 500 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, BC at 1:00pm.
