One of twelve children and the youngest daughter of Lloyd and Fannie (Peters) Scott, Doris Lucille Scott was born on October 26, 1925 in Edgeworth, Saskatchewan. After attending school in Edgeworth, Doris earned her teaching certificate from Normal School in Regina. In 1946, she started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Maxim, Saskatchewan. It was there that she met Cameron Earl McLeod and on July 10, 1949, they were married. Cameron and Doris spent 44 years in the community of Maxim, raising six children and running a mixed farming operation. Once children arrived, Doris left teaching to be a full-time, stay-at-home mother. She dedicated her life to raising her children and to making a home for her family. When she wasn’t cooking, baking, cleaning, gardening, milking, feeding the animals, Doris was busy piecing together treasured quilts for each of her children, sewing clothes, knitting and crocheting. In 1993, Cameron and Doris sold their farm and retired to Weyburn.
Even in retirement, Doris never slowed down. She continued to sew, cook, bake and as always took pride in a clean home. Doris dedicated her life to her husband and children and asked for very little in return. When she moved to Parkway Lodge in Weyburn, she was finally able to take a well-deserved rest. She continued to have a sharp wit, shared many stories of her life as a young girl growing up in rural Saskatchewan and of her life in Maxim. During her time at Parkway Lodge, Doris enjoyed visits from family, especially when family gathered to celebrate birthdays and special occasions.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November15, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK with Pastor Jody Pfeifer officiating. Luncheon will be held at Wheatland Senior Centre, Weyburn, SK with interment following at Maxim Cemetery, Maxim, SK.
