David Joseph Lyle
Bras d’Or
We, the family of David Joseph Lyle, regret to announce his passing on Thursday, November 28, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born March 28, 1933, in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Alexander and Mary (Vickers) Lyle.
David was employed as a steward with Marine Atlantic, retiring as chief steward. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or, where he served as Eucharistic Minister. David was also a member of the KOC, the North Sydney Seniors Club and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 83, Sydney Mines.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eileen (Long); daughter, Brenda (Wayne) Quinn; son, David (Lynn) Lyle; grandchildren, Matthew (Kim), Michael (Hannah), Lyle (Nylan) and Jenna (Jordan); sisters-in-law, Carm, Ethel and Ida; brother-in-law, Klaus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, David was predeceased by his sisters, Catherine, Casilda, Margaret, Sharon and Jenny and brothers, Alex, James, Edgar, Gerald and Herbie.
There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or on Tuesday, December 3 at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Peter MacLeod officiating. Following Mass, a reception will take place at the Bras d’Or Community Hall. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date.
Special thanks to Dr. Bill MacDonald for his care of David. Thanks to the An Cala, Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and special thanks to the Northside Community Guest home for the great care David received.
Memorials may be made to the Kiwanis Meals on Wheels or the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
