Charl was raised in Reef’s Hr and as a young man took off to Ontario to seek his fame and fortune with INCO. He came back home and met his better half Joy in St Anthony. They married on December 22, 1973. May 1st,1974 their daughter Shauna was born. They returned to Reef’s Hr and started their own business. Their son Darren was born on September 18,1984. In later years they moved to St john’s to be close to Shauna, Ian and his granddaughter Madison, who was his pride and joy. They made Portugal Cove their final stomping grounds. He spent a lifetime working and doing favours for people. His backyard garage became a gathering place for friends. His wife always called him “the social butterfly”. He had friends in every cove, bay and harbour and in later years knew most of the Avalon. He was kinda of rough around the edges and truly one of a kind. As long as he was surrounded by family and friends, had plenty of grub, smokes and a good game of cards he was a happy man.
