Obituary of Scot Ford Lutz
With deepest sadness and regret, the family of Scot Ford Lutz announce his sudden passing on October 22, 2019, in the home in Summerside, PEI at the age of 36. Born in the Western Kings Memorial Hospital in Berwick, Scot grew up around Ogilvie’s Wharf on the family farm and in Berwick.
An athletic, competitive and strong-willed boy, Scot was naturally drawn to martial arts, achieving a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo. Years of training and persistence culminated when Scot, at the age of 17, won a bronze medal while representing Canada at the 2000 World Taekwondo Junior Championship in Killarney, Ireland. If bringing home, a bronze medal wasn’t enough, he also brought home postcards, memories and pictures of himself kissing the “Blarney Stone”.
Extroverted and kind-hearted, he connected with people easily. From an early age, Scot’s great passion was helping people, leading him to study Kinesiology at Dalhousie and then Acadia University. Following the birth of his sister’s first child, Ethan, Scot moved to PEI in 2005 to spend time with his new nephew and family. He continued his education in PEI, graduating from UPEI with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (2009) and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2010). Upon graduating, Scot began a career as a Registered Nurse in the Kings County Memorial Hospital in Montague, PEI, caring for others in their greatest need in the emergency department.
Scot is survived by his mother Carol Thorpe-Lutz; father Daniel Lutz; step-mother Irene Calkin; sister Vanessa (Chris) Lutz-Collins; half-brothers Kevin, Larry and Stephen (Tara); step-brother Eidson; uncles, aunts and a large number of nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
He was predeceased by both his paternal and maternal grandparents.
A visitation will take place October 29, 2019 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm; a funeral service will be held October 30, 2019 at 2:00 pm, both to be held in the Berwick Funeral Chapel.
