Reuben «Harry»‘s Obituary
ATKINSON, Reuben Henry “Harry” – Reuben, “Harry”, as he was affectionately known, was born on November 14, 1942. He was the son of Rupert and Dorothy Atkinson of Swims Point, NS. Harry married Patricia Nickerson of Clark’s Harbour and they had two sons, Eddie and Dougie. Harry moved to Clark’s Harbour from St. John’s, NL at age 16. He started lobster fishing with his father at the time. Shortly after he met Patricia, and began working for her father, Ed. C. Nickerson, local fish dealer. A few years later, he moved to Montauk, NY where he worked for Perry Duryea’s Fish Market, as well as a yacht club and ice house. After about two years he moved back to Clark’s Harbour and worked as a deckhand, which soon lead him to follow his passion of becoming a captain of his own vessel. For over 40 years Harry was owner/operator of several boats, where he employed over 100 deckhands. Many of whom went on to captain their own boats and remained close with Harry until his final days. Harry thoroughly enjoyed hunting and riding his motorcycles. In later years you may have seen on his ride-on mover, whether the grass needed trimming or not. He also loved his miniature horses, Shadow and Lacey and dog puddles, who made a few hospital visits with Harry. For the past seventeen years, Harry could often be seen accompanied by his loving companion and partner, Pat Nickerson of Doctor’s Cove. He will be sadly missed by his son, Eddie (Cara) and grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye, Chad and Kobe. Harry is survived by son, Eddie (Cara); brothers, Richard (Betty) and Russell (Shirley); grandchildren, Chad and Kobe and great-granddaughter, Charlee May. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Patricia and son, Dougie. Harry passed away peacefully on the morning of October 17, 2019 at Roseway Hospital, with his son, Eddie at his side. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 19 from 7- 9 pm and Sunday, October 20 from 7-9 pm, at H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington.
