Lawrence Joseph Richard 2019

Lawrence Joseph Richard
1928-2019
Lawrence Joseph Richard, husband of Geraldine (Daley) Richard of Miramichi, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Friday, October 25th, 2019 at the age of 91.
Born in Loggieville, NB, Lawrence was the son of the late Alfred and Jane (Comeau) Richard.
In 1949, Lawrence joined the Royal Canadian Navy. Setting sail from Halifax, during five years of service, he travelled to ports, far and wide, from North and South America to overseas. He then began a 20 year career with the Royal Canadian Air Force working at radar stations: CFS Foymount, CFS Ramore, CFS Yorkton, and CFB Chatham. Following his retirement from the Armed Forces in 1972, he obtained his Journeyman Carpentry Certificate and then was employed as a civilian at RCAF St. Margarets and CFB Chatham until his retirement in 1991.
For more than a year while carrying out full time Air Force duties at CFB Chatham, he spent evenings and weekends building, with his own two hands, a house for his family on Millar Avenue in Newcastle. It is, literally and figuratively, the house that love built. After several military moves across the country, he was happy to settle down and truly have a place to call home. He lived in the home with wife Geraldine for 48 years.
Lawrence is survived by four daughters: Joan Barry (Brian) of Dalhousie, NB, Mary Richard of Halifax, NS, Lourdes Fowler (Dennis) of Halifax, NS and Carla Price (John) of Quispamsis, NB; two sisters: Diane Richard (Edward) of Loggieville, NB and Mary Bussiere (Maurice) of Timmins, ON; six grandchildren: Nathan, Brianna, Matthew, Sophie, Jacob and Ava as well as several nieces and nephews.
Lawrence is predeceased by his parents: Alfred and Jane (Comeau) Richard; three brothers: Robert, Arthur and infant brother André as well as two sisters: Verna and Florence.
At Lawrence’s request, there will be no visitation. A public funeral service will take place at the Sterling Bell Memorial Chapel, 651 King George Highway, Miramichi on Wednesday, October 30th at 1:30 PM with Father Antonio Reyes officiating. Burial will take place in Most Pure Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Cemetery, Barnaby.
As expressions of sympathy, in Lawrence’s memory, donations may be made to a memorial of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bell’s Funeral Home, 651 King George Highway, Miramichi, NB, E1V 1N9. Telephone: 622-3600. Messages of condolence as well as donations may be made on our website: www.bellsmeadows.com.
