Obituary of Joseph Victor Skoropada
SKOROPADA, Joseph (Joe) Victor
November 28, 1930 – October 28, 2019
One month shy of his 89th birthday, Joe passed away peacefully at Kingston General Hospital
with dearest family members by his side. He is predeceased by his mother Irene Chesnin (Szumlinski) and father Stephen Skoropada. He is survived by his ‘the best ever’ family including his wife of 67 years Dorothy (McConnachie), his daughters Margaret (Meg) Muirhead (Bruce Higgs), Lynn Doherty and by his son John (Liz Foxton). He is also survived by his grandchildren Alex Doherty, Ian Doherty (Colette), Lindsay (Neil Lalor), Ailish, Sierra and by great-great grandchildren Claire, Leeanne and Evelyn Doherty. Joe was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario and joined the Royal Canadian Navy at an early age. It was whilst in the navy that he met Dorothy, the WREN of his dreams. After the birth of his first child he requested a transfer to the RCAF. His career in the military afforded him and his young family the great opportunity to live abroad and travel extensively. Those experiences fueled a lifelong love of travel and an appreciation for
different cultures that continues with his surviving family. In his later years he was an avid armchair sports fan but above all his best times were at the big dining table always surrounded by good food and the company of loud, goofy, laughing, story telling family members. At Joe’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family ceremony at a later date.
