Edwin, Antigonish. It is with great sadness we the
family of Joseph Edwin DeCoste announce his passing, at the age of 76,
on Sunday, September 29, 2019 in St. Martha’s Regional
Hospital, Antigonish surrounded by family. Joe was born in
Antigonish on May 4, 1943; he was the son of the late Victor and
Margaret «Maggie» (Casey) DeCoste.
Joe was an accomplished Finish Carpenter who took great pride
in his work. In his later years he enjoyed listening to his
prized Country Classic music collection and playing crib with family
and friends. Joe enjoyed a good hockey game and remained a
loyal HABS fan to the end.
Joe is survived by his children, Donnie DeCoste (Rajinder),
Edmonton; Julene DeCoste (Garry), Antigonish; Jason DeCoste
(Sue), Lloydminster; Jacqueline Cleary (Bradley), Antigonish;
grandchildren, Carlee DeCoste, Kyle and Krysten Pettipas, Sam and
Cordell DeCoste, Jenna, Joanna and Julia Cleary, the mother of his
children, Naomi DeCoste, Manassette Lake; sisters, Dolly Fraser
(Jack), Barbara Spin, Theresa Kelly (Dennis), Rita Meagher (Philip);
brother, Michael DeCoste, brothers-in-law, Arthur Williams, Louis
Brow; sister-in-law, Loretta «Sandy» DeCoste, special niece,
Nicole Meagher and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Joe
was predeceased by sisters, Agatha, Kathleen, Patricia, Adeline and
brother, Gerard.
A heartfelt thank you to the nurses, doctors and staff of Med
Surge/GARU and Palliative Care for the exceptional care and compassion
given to our father during his illness.
There will be a visitation in St. Paul’s Center,
Havre Boucher on Friday, October 4, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. with funeral
mass following at 11a.m. in St. Paul’s Roman Catholic
Church, Havre Boucher with Father Allan MacPhie officiating.
Burial will take place in St. Paul’s Cemetery. No flowers by
request. Donations may be made to St. Paul’s Luncheon Fund
or to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Martha’s Hospital,
Antigonish.
