Jean Kobelka 2019

Jean’s Obituary
Jean Kobelka, beloved wife of the late Steven Kobelka, passed away with family by her side at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on October 19, 2019, at the age of 89 years.
Jean was born on January 16, 1930, in Dunrea, MB, to John and Victoria (Lewicka) Palahnuk. The fifth youngest of eleven children, Jean attended Albion School in Dunrea until her family moved to Virden, MB, where she continued her education.
Jean worked at the Fairview Home in Brandon, MB, as a Practical Nurse. With her parents, she moved to Canora, SK, to help her mother who was not well. In Canora, she met Steven Kobelka and they were united in holy marriage on November 15, 1956. They were blessed with 60 years of married life together. God blessed them with seven children: Beverly, Joan, Gaylene, Ramona, Irene, Stephen, and Dorie.
Jean loved her quiet times, gardening, embroidery, knitting, drawing, and painting. She was an amazing cook and served many tasty meals to her family and friends. She loved visiting with all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends. When summer came along, Jean loved to spend early mornings in her garden, where she would talk to God and enjoyed listening to the birds sing. She had a very strong faith in God and continually prayed, believed and received many answers to her prayers for her family and herself.
Jean looked forward to trips to the lake for picnics and outings with her family. She loved to go fishing and enjoyed picking mushrooms and berries of all kinds with Steve.
Jean worked alongside with Steve in the family business, Steven’s Jewellery, which they operated for 62 years. She often helped at the Kiwanis Club pancake breakfasts and suppers, the fairground food booths, and meal preparations at the Rainbow Hall. Her dedication was evident in her 35 years of service with the Ukrainian Orthodox Women’s Association.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jean is predeceased by her parents, John and Victoria; husband, Steven; brothers: Walter, Steve, Johnny, and William and her sisters: Lillian Bazylewski and Patricia Sokolski.
She is survived by her children: Beverly Zukowski (Dave) and their daughter, Raissa; Joan Yawney and her children, Chad, Jessica Sopher (Dean), great-grandson, Maverick, and Vanessa; Gaylene Koeppe (Mark) and their daughter, Stephanie Hay (Tim) and great granddaughters, Eve and Sylvie; Ramona and her children, Elana, Dylan and Devin; Irene Sidoryk (Dale) and their daughters, Karlee and Caitlin; Stephen (Allison) and their children, Tyler, Carson and Eric; and Dorie Rylance (Joe) and their daughters, Megan and Kaeleigh; her sisters: Mary Popowich, Anne McIntosh, and Stella Undershute; and her brother, Henry Polk, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In Jean’s honour, a Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 27, 2019, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora. Funeral Services continue at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 28, 2019, from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Canora with Rev. Fr. Petro Tsenov officiating. Interment will follow in the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Jean Kobelka.
