Dorothy Noël Thomson
1929-2019
Thomson, Dorothy Noël (née
Thompson)
In her 89th year, Noël passed
away peacefully surrounded by her four daughters, on Thursday, October
10, 2019 in Guelph, Ontario. She joins her husband of 64 years,
Christian Ross Thomson, who passed away May 1, 2018. They
are survived by daughters (and husbands); Joanne (Stephen Locke) of
Florida, Christine (Dave McCorquodale) of Nova Scotia, Karen (Romeo
Fracassi) of Ontario and Sarah (Ted Gooding) of Alberta, as well as
her eight grandchildren; Geoffrey & Daniel Locke, Megan
& Eric McCorquodale, Paul & Katharine Beaton, and
Alison & Ian Gooding. She is also survived by her brother
Roger Thompson (Ana) of Oakville, Ontario, sister-in-law Katharine
Martin (late Paul) of Barrie, Ontario, step-brother-in-law Kenneth
Balchin (Sheilah) of Ottawa, Ontario, eight nieces and nephews and
many lifelong friends.
Born on Dec 14, 1929 in Hamilton, Ontario, Noël
attended Westdale Collegiate (Hamilton) and Glebe Collegiate (Ottawa).
While studying political science at Carleton College (now Carleton
University, Ottawa), she served on the Student Council, and met her
future husband Ross. Noël was a Mary Kay consultant, as well
as a long-time Sears Canada (Ottawa) employee where she nurtured her
interest in interior decorating and finance. She was lucky to spend
her retirement years living in Australia (2 years), then setting up a
new home in Guelph, playing bridge and traveling with
Ross.
Her daughters will be pleased to receive extended family,
friends and the Elliott community for a visitation on Tuesday, October
15, 2019 from 1 – 4 p.m. in the Main Chapel Dining Room, The Elliott
Community, 172 Metcalfe Street, Guelph, Ontario. Interment
and family service will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Magog, Quebec in
June 2020.
Special thanks go to the wonderful women at
‘Friends of the Family’ for caring for mom these
past several years and becoming her cherished friends.
In memoriam, donations may be made to the Elliott Community
whose exceptional, caring staff on the Wellington Floor were so
supportive of Noël and Ross in their senior years: www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-elliott-community/
