We regret to announce the passing of Daniel (Donnie) Power, 84, of Alder Point, on Sunday, October 27, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Alder Point on December 10, 1934, he was the son of the late Peter and Sara (Dugas) Power.
Donnie was a man of many trades. His love for woodworking and learning enabled him to passionately create many projects which he held dear to his heart. Donnie concurred many adventures in his lifetime; through his life journey he enjoyed time sailing the lake boats, lobster fishing, coal mining, even serving with the Black Watch Regiment. He enjoyed fiddle and bagpipe music and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his brother Murdock (Gerry) Power, sisters Jane (Bob) Cathcart and Delvina Nesbitt, his daughters Jeannie (Tex) Stirling, Angel (Joey) Bonar and Laura-Lee Power. Also left to mourn is daughter-in-law Sylvia Power, grandchildren Devon, Angel, Troy, Kerrianne, Scott, Curtis, Amanda, Ryan and Michael, along with 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Donnie was predeceased by his children’s mother Geraldine (Gerry) Power, children Kay, Gordie and Stevie, grandson David and great-grandchildren Cody and Brady; as well as his brothers Joseph, Jim, Charles, Peter and Wensley and sisters, Robena, Rhoda, June and Catherine.
Donnie’s family would like to thank the Palliative Care (An Cala) staff, Dr. Peter Poulos and Dr. Lisa MacInnis. Thank you to the Northside Community Guest Home whom have taken such great care of him over the past few years. Thank you to Dr. Beth MacCormick and granddaughter Amanda for their kindness and care.
There will be no visitation. The funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Anne Church, Alder Point with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating.
