Obituary for
Barry William Brown
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Barry William Brown on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the age of 61 years.
Barry will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Beverly Ann Brown; his children, Ben (Andrea), Laura and Paul; three grandchildren, Mya, Sadie and Sequoia; three brothers Michael, Stacy and Roger (Diane); and five nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his father, William Eugene Brown in 2005.
Barry was born in Calgary in 1958. His father was in the army and was transferred to Edmonton when Barry was 8 months old. At the age of 8, his father was posted to Germany for 3 years and back to Edmonton in 1969. It was in Germany where Barry found his love for hockey. He worked his way up to the AJHL level playing for the Spruce Grove Mets who won the Centennial Cup in 1974. His hockey career came to an end with a serious wrist injury while playing for the Portland Winterhawks. Although a crushing disappointment, he never lost his love for the game and played it forward by coaching minor hockey and little league baseball at the community level.
Barry moved back to Edmonton from Portland and worked for Western Supplies Ltd. for 16 years. He had a gift for woodworking and was inspired by his Grandpa Dube, who was a carpenter by trade, to start his own house building business. He left his “house print” so to speak in Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Comox, Cranbrook and Prince George.
Barry so enjoyed life – golfing, swimming, running and salmon fishing on the West Coast. Most of all he loved his family.

The family sends a heartfelt thank you to Val White and to the staff in Unit 4Y at the Edmonton General Continuing Care for the love and kindness they gave Barry for the last 7 years.
Memorial Service Saturday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Huntington’s Society of Canada.
