Barbara May Saunders

This is the story of Barbara May Saunders (nee Upshall).
Barbara was a wonderful woman that was loved, is missed, and will
always be cherished. «Barbie» as she was called by many of
her friends and family, was an amazing wife, mom, daughter, sister,
grandmother, friend and card shark like no other.
Barbara’s story starts on January 18, 1946, one of
six children of George and Lillian Upshall. Barbara was born in Little
Harbour East, NL. where she would spend her childhood, grow up, and
make many lifelong friends. She would continue her education to become
an elementary school teacher and later a banker. She fell in love with
a rascal named Roger and had two children, Renée and
Melanie.
Barbara was a «Travelling Wilbury», laying her hat
in many communities across Newfoundland. She was an avid dart player,
with one of her proudest moments being repeat recipient of the skunk
trophy. She was creator of many interesting knitted items, player of
numerous games, and reader of all books by Danielle Steele. However,
what she will be best remembered and cherished for was her selfless
caring and devotion to others, putting others before herself
always.
Loved ones that cleared the path for Barbara are her mother
and father, George and Lillian Upshall, husband, Roger Saunders, and
brothers Winston and Franklin, in addition to other beloved relatives.
Loved ones that will miss Barbara until they meet again are her
daughters, Renée Saunders and Melanie (Shawn) Wheeler,
sisters Lorraine Wiseman, Norma (Don) Stanley and Daisy King,
grandchildren, Evan, Claire and Caleb Gallant and Brett, Sarah and
Zachary Wheeler, and her long-time friend Gary Cooper in addition to
many other friends and relatives.
And so the story goes on until we meet again. We love you and
miss you, Mom.
A Celebration of Barbara will be held at 4 pm, on Friday,
October 25, 2019, at Pritchett’s Funeral Home, 11 Centennial
Road, Gambo, NL A0G 1T0.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to the Canadian Diabetes Association,
Alzheimer’s Society of Newfoundland and
Labrador, or to a charity of your choice in
Barbara’s name.
