Obituary for
Allan Thomas Bates
Allan Thomas Bates, 67, passed away suddenly at the Kirkland Lake Hospital on September 24, 2019. Predeceased by his mother Mona Rock, his father Wilbert Bates, his sisters Marlene Daly and Joann Carrier, he leaves behind his brother Russell Bates(Colette) of Timmins, his sisters Joyce Brake(Fred) of Stonewall, Manitoba, Doreen Bates of Calgary, Jeannette Daly (Erin) of Midland, Wendy Bates of Chelmsford and Christine Berlingeri (Anthony) of Timmins as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Allan will be fondly remembered by family and friends for the love he showed his family, by his radiant smile at the mere mention of their names, the Johnny Cash sing-a-longs, his love of children, horses and dogs, the great pleasure he took in being pampered and in shopping (he always needed another hat, another belt, a new set of sheets, another cup, another radio, oh, did I say another hat?). His family and caregivers will undoubtedly remember his high energy, his love of life, his get-up-and-go and how keeping up with him could sometimes be a challenge. Allan gave his love unconditionally and taught us to appreciate the simple things in life. He helped us see the world “through the eyes of a child”, with such amazement and joy. Through his vulnerabilities he gave us the gift of insight and showed us things we might otherwise have missed.
Allan’s family wishes to express their gratitude to his other “families”: Community Living Stormont County in Cornwall and Extendicare Kirkland Lake. The expertise, devotion and excellent care provided by these people helped Allan shine. Their expertise helped him become all that he was capable of being. The depth of their love made a huge difference in our brother’s life.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery, Saturday October 5th at 11:00 a.m. for the family and close friends. Deacon Michel Neron will officiate.
