It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patricia (Patty) Coates on September 10th, 2019 surrounded by her family and her best friend at the age of 66. Patty was an incredible person who lived a full and beautiful life, traveling the world and instilling strong morals, work ethic and a tiny bit of fear in all three of her children, the smallest of which is still twice her size – not that it ever mattered. Patty will be loved and missed greatly by her kids, Justin (Minn) Coates, Christopher (Rachelle) Coates, and Ethan Stevenson-Coates.
Patty spent her entire life travelling the world, beginning as a young adult and travelling the Middle East, Asia, Europe and North Africa, to the countless trips she took her children as they grew up, most recently taking her sons and their partners to Hawaii with her eldest brother and some of his family in February. She worked tirelessly to raise her children on her own and made sure they never felt anything but blessed with the life they had. Later in life, Patty discovered a career as a realtor. It became apparent to everyone in her life that this was her true calling. Patty was a fighter, and that was apparent in every aspect of her life. From putting herself through training while working two jobs, becoming an established realtor and still dedicating significant amounts of her time and energy volunteering with various groups like the Zebra Foundation, Head Start, and a plethora of other organizations, to fighting pancreatic cancer for nearly two years, Patty always took life head-on and focused on the beauty of life and her ability to share her wisdom and kindness with the world. Patty was predeceased by her husband, Dennis James Stevenson. We know you’re looking down on us with a smile, Mom. Just make sure you look away every once in a while when your boys are together.
A Celebration of Patty’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the Tucker Pavilion of the Citadel Theatre, 9828 101A Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta.
