Madge Kelly

Madge (Marguerite Rita) Kelly
February 7, 1927- September 1, 2019
With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Madge (Marguerite Rita) Kelly (Payette) on Sunday, September 1, 2019, surrounded by family and love. She is now joyfully reunited with Tom Kelly, her husband and best friend through seventy-two years of marriage. Mom was the ultimate matriarch who loved family gatherings. She will be deeply missed by her children Catherine (Bob) Perry, Christine Kelly, Tim Kelly (Barbara) . She was the proud grandmother of Christine Perry (Jamie Golombek), Robby Perry, Katy Perry (Boro Bulajic) , T.J. (Carrie) Hatton, Laura Hatton (Matthew Enss), Sarah Hatton (Allan Freeman), Krystal Kelly (Matt Creedon), and Tommy Kelly, as well as her great-grandchildren Alex Kroger, Henry Freeman, Keira Hatton, Rowan Hatton-Enss, Charlie Bulajic and Maggie Bulajic. Madge was born and raised in Preston (Cambridge) Ontario on February 7, 1927 to Albert and Florida Payette. Her siblings Beatrice Walton (Fred), Albert Payette (Shirley), Anita Tarlin (George), William Payette (Bea), Lorraine Sheppard, Richard Payette (Kate), Lucille Wright (Jack) were there with Tom, Madge’s parents , as well as her in-laws James and Lizzie Kelly and Tom’s sister Betty ( John) Swiss and nephew Johnny Swiss to welcome her. She is survived by Tom’s brother Jim (Marie) Kelly of Moncton New Brunswick. For the last fifty years Mom and Dad called Stratford, Ontario home. They created a wonderful and fulfilling life there of family, friends, community involvement, careers and hobbies. Madge will be greatly missed by her family and the wonderful caretakers at University Gates long-term care facility. Her sense of humour remained with her to the end. As well has her quirky humour, Madge will be fondly remembered for her love of card and board games which she instilled in all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; her passion for reading, her outstanding talent when knitting needles were in her hands, her precision with a wedge when on the golf course, and Sunday lunches with her homemade teacakes and butter tarts. She loved to travel, and always looked forward to the next cruise or trip to Florida. She found great solace in her faith and lived a life of dignity and honour. Always kind and compassionate, she was sensitive to the moods and needs of others and was always there to listen.
Mom took great pleasure in the little things which she always said mattered most: a family gathering, a shared smile, a beautiful sunset, a good book, a song and dance or a long walk. She was very much a self taught woman who had a knack with numbers and bank ledgers. She relished learning anything new. An avid crossword and sudoku puzzle solver, her knowledge of trivia and game strategy was mind boggling. But, what mattered most to Mom was her faith, her family, and her love for Dad. After seventy-two years of marriage, his passing in April was a profound and insurmountable loss for her. As much as we will miss her, we are so glad that she is reunited with him! Mom always loved a party, and we know there will be a great celebration now that they are together again.
We wish to offer our heartfelt thanks to the nursing and support staff of the Matthew neighbourhood at University Gates. Your compassion, advice and care for our parents was remarkable and greatly appreciated. Visitation will be at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street Stratford on Friday, September 6 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. There will be a prayer service at the funeral home on Friday at 1:45. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 7, 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish, 50 Well St. Stratford, with a reception luncheon to follow in the church basement. Cremation will follow with a private interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society, would be appreciated and may be made through the funeral home. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
Now God has you in his keeping, while you remain here in our heart…
