Ludwig Helmut Wipprecht
Wipprecht, Ludwig Helmut, 90 years – June 5, 1929 to September 13, 2019
Helmut went to his reward peacefully and joyfully at Temiskaming Hospital in New Liskeard. He died confidently, knowing that he was heading for his heavenly home.
Helmut was born and raised in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany. At the age of 19 he left Germany to attend seminary at Asbury College in Kentucky where he met the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Lila (predeceased in 2015).
Back in Germany, he studied at the University of Heidelburg. Then he completed his Master of Divinity at the University of Toronto and began his work serving the Lord as a minister in 1956.
He pastored congregations in Cobalt, Latchford, Temagami and then in Nairn Centre, Whitefish and Naughton. He spent his retirement years in Cobalt with Lila where he enjoyed his house, the summer and spending many hours in and on the water. He went for his last swim in Cobalt Lake on August 2, 2019.
Helmut was gifted with a very high intellect. He loved to read and research and study theology. He was an avid Bible scholar. He loved a good debate on issues that were important to him. Over the years, he shared his insight and knowledge in his Sunday sermons, Bible study groups, and with family and friends. He loved to share his opinions in the many letters he wrote to the editor of newspapers and magazines.
Helmut was proud to be the patriarch of his tribe: his three children, John (late Sylvie Lemieux), Susan Scheunemann (Dieter), Mary Andrews (late Terry); six grandchildren, Axel Von Scheunemann (Vanessa), Kurtis Von Scheunemann (Terri Lynn), Erika Von Scheunemann (Craig), Mélanie Stacknik (Steve), Nathalie Wipprecht, and Christie Wipprecht (Tyler); and six great grand children, Alexa, Portia, and Bianca Von Scheunemann, Tiara and Colby Stacknik and Liam Von Scheunemann.
Helmut will be remembered during the regular 10:30 am Sunday service at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 51 Wellington St. North in New Liskeard, on Sunday September 22. There will be a visitation following the regular service, at approximately 11:45 am.
