Brigadier General (Ret) Jack V. Watts
DSO, DFC*, CD, Croix de Guerre/
Legion d’Honneur, Knight of St. George

Per Ardua Ad Astra, Through Adversity to the Stars, the Royal Canadian Air Force motto that personified our Father’s distinguished life and military career as the most highly decorated Canadian Navigator of WWII. He was a trained administration specialist, Canadian Air Sea Rescue Base Commander and became a highly respected Diplomat representing his country in both India and Africa, until his retirement from the RCAF in 1975. Still energized, he pursued another career for a few more years with the Canadian Commercial Corporation which took him back to Africa and ultimately to his full retirement from working life. The cottage and Florida “snowbirding” became his new calling. Our Father, Brigadier General Jack Vincent Watts, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and author, born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, slipped peacefully away at the Ottawa Perley Rideau Veterans Health Centre to reunite with family and many fellow servicemen. Dad was predeceased by Norma, his beloved wife of 74 years (September 2018) and his cherished daughter, Linda Jeanne (October 2012). He will be achingly missed by his ever proud son Peter (Karen) and his selflessly devoted daughter Lois (Richard and family), grandsons Ben, Luke (Maddy), Peter and Tyler (Sarah), granddaughter Megan (Kevin), great granddaughters Abigail, Elle and Parker and great grandson Garrett. As per Dad’s wishes, his ashes will be interred with Mom at a private ceremony as well as a small portion to be taken to Greece to join his daughter, Linda, where she rests. A memorial for Dad and Mom will be placed at the National Military Cemetery located at Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa at a date to be determined. Thank you to all those gentle souls at the Perley who took time to help and guide Dad through the last years of his life. Donations to the Perley Rideau Veterans Health Centre would be welcome (1750 Russell Road
Ottawa, ON. K1G 5Z6). Condolences may be sent to lawscult@gmail.com. Thank you on behalf of our family.
