Floyd Alec Travis, 92, passed away peacefully with family by his side at his home Eden Gardens , Nanaimo. He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on June 02, 1927, to parents Alex & Rhoda Travis. He is predeceased by his parents & siblings Russell, Irene, Grace, Jewel, Art and Joyce. Grandsons Floyd and Russell. Son-in-law’s James Martin Pridge (Pam), Glen Martin (Lynn) & James William Pridge (Debbie).
Floyd & his father traveled west to Nanaimo via boxcar on the railway with all their belongings, including livestock in 1943 when Flloyd was only 16. He married Sadie(Sara) Ganner, and had daughters Pam, Debbie, Heather (Richard), Lynn (John), son Floyd (Merry). He later married Mary Jacobs. He is survived by his son and daughters. Son-in-law Bob Bhe, grandchildren & great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed hunting grouse & pheasants with his beloved dogs, raising and dealing livestock, and telling old family stories over a beer (or two). He was a true cowboy having owned, raised and rode many horses throughout his lifetime.
Yodelers Wilf Carter & Jimmy Rodgers were two of his favourite singers, and Floyd became quite a good yodeler himself. Floyd enjoyed baseball & hockey with the Toronto Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs being his teams. He mostly worked in the woods logging, but also ventured into metal salvage, farming, shipyards (catcher for hot rivots) to name a few. He often said living through the 1930’s in the dusty prairies where you needed a bag of fertilizer to even raise an umbrella, made him do near anything to make a living. Often said he would have picked fly sh** from a window screen if someone was willing to pay him!
One of his favourite sayings was “Who has more fun than people”.
