Passed peacefully away Wednesday, September 11, 2019, in the presence of his loving family, Eric John Mercer of Shea Heights in his 83rd year. Predeceased by his youngest son Dean, parents Edward and Mary, sister Florence and her husband Peter, brother Raymond, sister Marjorie and sister-in-law Nell. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of sixty years Madonna; daughters: Rosemary (Michel Trudeau), Jenny (Jack Trudel), Betty (David Doyle), Donna (Doug Stack) and Marjorie; son Dan (Tina); brother Edward; sisters-in-law: Bernadette and Rita Hicks; brother-in-law Terry Barnes; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention. Eric was employed for many years as a heavy-duty mechanic at the Department of Highways, a job he loved. Special thanks to Dr. Stephen Darcy, the Shea Heights Community Clinic and to the staff of Glenbrook Lodge for their tremendous compassion and exceptional care during Eric’s short stay. Thank you to Zackery Blake, Eric’s buddy!! And his caregiver for the past year; to Harold and Nellie Moore who are the most caring of neighbours; to his granddaughter Holly for the love, time and devotion she showed to her grandfather, both to his physical care and his overall wellbeing. You made him smile!! Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Thursday from 7- 9 p.m. and Friday from 12 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. from St. John Bosco Church. Cremation to follow. Inurnment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
