Obituary for
Muriel Daniel
October 1, 1930 – August 23, 2019
Muriel Daniel (nee Brown), in her 89th year, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on August 23, 2019 in Ottawa, Ontario. Muriel was admitted to hospital on August 13, 2019 and shared a precious final few days with her family and close friends. Her wit and character, and most importantly, her faith in God, sustained her as she transitioned from Earth to Heaven. She will be missed in so many ways, yet we are comforted and rejoice that she is now free from suffering and face-to-face with Jesus.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Kanata Baptist Church, 465 Hazeldean Rd, Kanata, ON K2L1V1. A reception will follow immediately at the same location.
Muriel was born and raised in Montreal, the fourth of five children born to Leslie and Kay Brown. Muriel was very active in the church from a young age, becoming a Sunday school teacher and youth leader in her early 20s. Muriel also completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in history from Sir George William University. After marrying, she chose to remain at home to raise her two children. In the late 1970s Muriel re-entered the work force, working at a local newspaper, The Lakeshore News. After moving to Fredericton, New Brunswick in late 1979, she took on a position at the University of New Brunswick, initially working in the Foreign Students’ Office and later at the Harriet Irving Library. While Muriel enjoyed the comradery of her work mates, she also enjoyed travelling the world, exploring theatre, opera and new cultural experiences. Muriel was fiercely independent but found peace and comfort returning to the church in 1999 upon her move to Ottawa with her son and family. Muriel served and spent time in fellowship with family and friends at Kanata Baptist Church. She looked forward to Wednesday morning Bible study, her small group, and she had a huge heart for missions serving on mission council. Muriel put her library experience to good use volunteering in the library at Stephen Leacock public school. Muriel’s true passions in life were her family and her faith. She considered herself very fortunate to be able to live so close to three of her grandchildren and regularly visited her fourth.
Muriel is survived by her children: Brent (Vicki) and Cheryl (Mark). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kelly (Ian), Kate (Jeff), Allie, and Ryan, and her godson Greg, all who adored her. Her family enjoyed many close moments together and cherish her memory and legacy.
Muriel’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all the healthcare professionals at The Ottawa Hospital, the Red Oak Retirement home, and the wonderful nurses that provided her care. They cared for her through the long journey, treating her with respect and compassion and made our Mom/Grandma comfortable in her final days.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Muriel
Daniel..
