Marie Jeanne Labreche Sunday August 4th 2019

Labreche, Marie Jeanne (Mary Anne) (nee Leboeuf) – Mary Anne passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on August 4, 2019 at the age of 94 at Temiskaming Lodge in Haileybury where she resided with her husband since July 2015.
Mary Anne was the eldest of 9 children. She is predeceased by her parents Anna (nee Jensen) and Alcid Leboeuf, brother Alcid Junior, sisters Lucy, “Gigette”, Margaret, Kristine, Carol and Maxine and first husband George Bordeleau. She is survived by her loving brother Noel (Leona) as well as her dear husband Ernie who will forever grieve her absence. She will be greatly missed by her four daughters Pauline Lalonde (late Aurel), Georgette Bordeleau, Julia Anne Menard (Paul) and Jacqueline Bordeleau. She was cherished by her grandchildren Suzanne Lalonde (Tim), Michelle Menard, George Peterson, Natalie Peterson, Tanya White, Marc Pacaud, Michael Pacaud and several beautiful great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren as well as dear nieces.
Mary Anne was born in Blind River on September 4, 1924 and was married at the age of 15. She worked very hard all her life, initially on the farm, then cooking in logging camps followed by cooking in most restaurants in Blind River where everyone especially loved her homemade pies, etc. In her 50’s, she began working as a nurse’s aid at the St. Joseph’s hospital where she was well respected for her work ethic and tender loving care to patients.
Mary Anne will be sadly missed by all those whose lives she touched. She continued to smile and be jovial even as her Alzheimer’s progressed.
Much appreciation and gratitude to the medical, administrative, nursing and auxiliary staff at Temiskaming Lodge for their unwavering professionalism, inclusion of family in ongoing decision making and provision of regular updates about her ever changing needs and condition and who consistently demonstrated tender loving care in their daily interactions. For example, the Life Enrichment Assistant, independent of a personal family request, started making a point of going to Mary Anne’s room to apply nail polish as she was unable to initiate going to the weekly nail care station given her failing memory. Mary Anne liked dressing up daily and this always included applying lots of jewellery, make-up (compliments of her primary worker, Lois, as her dementia progressed), and choosing from a wide selection of scarves crocheted by daughter Pauline. She was fondly referred to as the “Bling” lady at the Lodge. Special thanks to her primary workers as well as so many other PSW’s who were always so kind and loving with her, treating her like their mother. The family will be forever grateful.
A memorial graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery (east side), Granary Lake Road in Blind River at 1100 hours on Saturday, August 24, 2019 followed by a luncheon at Calvary Gospel Church, 55 Queen Avenue. All friends and family are welcomed and encouraged to share their fond memories of our loving and generous mother. Since Ernie will be unable to attend due to his complex health needs, she will also be memorialized at a future date during Temiskaming Lodge’s group Celebration of Life ceremony where he will continue to reside.
In lieu of donations, the family would request you call upon a loved one or friend and just spend time together eating a yummy snack in her honour. While living independently at home, she always had a fondness for preparing a wide variety of delicious home made desserts when company was coming. Her great appetite endured until near the end.
