It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Leonard Joseph Klyne. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Leonard was pre-deceased by his parents Sam and Agnes Klyne, sisters Frieda and Verna, brothers Edward and Raymond, children Michelle, Leonard Jr., son-in-law Shane and granddaughter Paige. Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 39 years Lauri, Leonard’s children Jason, Cory (Bev), Leonora (Dustin), Rachel, Tracy (George) and Theresa (Stephen). His grandchildren and all his beloved nieces and nephews.
Leonard was born at the Portage General Hospital May 8, 1938. He resided in rural Portage la Prairie until age 5 when he moved with his family to Winnipeg, not returning to Portage la Prairie until grade 3. Leonard was the second oldest of 10 brothers and sisters. All whom he spent so much time with through the years.
Leonard had many careers through his 81 years of life, but volunteering is what he most enjoyed. He was always involved in his Metis roots. He was a proud Metis man and would do whatever he could to have his views about his heritage heard. Always at the friendship centre, many years being a member on the board. Sitting and reminiscing with friends and many days sitting with his wife while she quilted he was always so interested in her next project.
Leonard was a amazing Dad his heart was full with family. His love for hunting and fishing never faded right till the end he talked about his next adventure. He was always a helping hand and there when you needed him whether just a ear to listen or help with anything. He was always up for a challenge.
Dad was always so good at everything, we always said to him “Dad is there anything you can’t do” he took being a dad serious and was always there if we needed him. He was adventurous, loved the outdoors, spent most of his time farming, fixing cars, snowmobiling, whatever time of year didn’t matter he was doing something outdoors.
All his life he loved music from an early age he could pick up an instrument and just new how to play. Unbelievable how one man could hold so much talent.
He would teach music to anyone he could. Playing his favorite guitar any hour of the day or night for whoever would listen. His beautiful booming voice would sing us to sleep, he would always draw a crowd.
Leonard grew up south of Portage and attended the Over Hill school, a one room school he attended until he was 13, when he had to get a job working in the brick yard to help support his mother with his brothers and sisters.
He had many skills that many people admired.
He was loving warm and always had a hand shake for everyone. So proud of everyone and always showed such attention to whomever needed him. He was so proud of his grandchildren and would always talk your ear off about them and his great grandchildren whom all love him dearly.
We have all been so lucky to have had our dad as long as we did, so many years spent together. The laughter, the jokes, the nicknames we will all remember. The many adventures he took us on we will forever hold dear. We know Leonard will be dearly missed by all who knew him,
