Obituary of John Vander Til
“For if we died with him, we shall also live with him”
On Friday, August 2nd, 2019, The Lord called home at his appointed hour Johannes “John” Vander Til of Strathroy in his 94th year. John is survived by his beloved wife Rika Vander Til (Schrik, nee Klingenberg). John is predeceased by his wife Saapke (nee Smids). John is survived by his children Eno (Rita) Vander Til, Hilda (John) Sipkens, Florence (John) Lindeboom, Cathy (Rick) Hiemstra, Janet (Graham) Saarloos, Grace (Mike) DeBoer and Emily (Dale) O’Donnell. John will be remembered by his 28 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren and counting. Also remembered by his step-children Christine (Albert) Faber, Ben (Marian) Schrik and Ann (Leo) Miedema and families. Dear Brother-in-law Stan and Hilly, Tinie and Gretchen and Joe. John was the last surviving member of his family and the only member to emigrate from the Netherlands after serving in the Dutch Army, stationed in Indonesia as a Sergeant for three years. John farmed and lovingly raised his family in the Camlachie area for 30 years. John was dedicated to serving his Lord through various church ministries, holding a special place in his heart for ministry at Watford Quality Care. John also enjoyed writing (poetry and his memoirs), playing the trumpet and singing in the Conspirito Choir. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 4th, 2019 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY. Funeral service will be held at Providence United Reformed Church on Monday, August 5th at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery. Donations to the charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
