It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we the family of the late James Gerald Devereaux announce his passing at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, NL on Friday, August 23rd, 2019 at the age of 86 years. Born in Avondale, NL, James was the son of the late Michael and Sarah (nee Nugent) Devereaux. James was also predeceased by his sister Mary (Nick) Hawco, brother Emmanuel (Edith) Devereaux, father and mother-in-law Robert and Blanche (nee Hardy) Frampton, brothers-in-law William Frampton and Edward Fitzgerald, and sister-in-law Geri Devereaux.
James leaves to mourn with many fond and precious memories his loving wife of 60 years Florence Devereaux (nee Frampton); children Joanne (Hedley) Clarke of Port aux Basques, NL, Brian (Susan) Devereaux of Pembroke, ON, Elaine Devereaux (Dennis Hynes) of Cow Head, NL, Michael Devereaux (Martha Tobin) of Ottawa, ON, Glenn (Barbara) Devereaux of Massey Drive, NL, Tracy (Dave) Dumaresque of Labrador City; grandchildren Terri Clarke (Peter Reilly), Mitchell Clarke (Robin Battiste), Katelyn Devereaux, Maiah Devereaux, Glenda Sheaves, Meagan Tobin-Devereaux,Emma Tobin-Devereaux, Sarah (Justin) Mutford, Jordan Devereaux (Shawna Felix), Brooke Dumaresque, Jack Dumaresque; great-grandchildren Emilie Mutford, Brayden Devereaux and Lexi Devereaux. James also leaves behind sisters Rita Fitzgerald of Brigus, NL, Teresa (Ray) Marburger of Pennsylvania, USA, Rosella (Bill) Bryne of Holyrood, NL, Bernice (Edward) Dalton of Conception Harbour, NL; brothers Michael (Jean) Devereaux of Gander, NL, Frank (Barbara) Devereaux of Oshawa, ON, Joe Devereaux of Foxtrap, NL, Greg (Babe) Devereaux of Avondale, NL; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Violet (Rev. Clayton) Billard, Reginald (Maxine) Frampton, Ronald Frampton and Hazel Frampton all of Port aux Basques, NL; special long time family friends Alma Anderson and Bessie Blackmore plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, August 24th from 7-9 pm and on Sunday, August 25th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at East Haven Funeral Home Inc. The funeral service will take place on Monday, August 26th at 11 am from the Wesley United Church in Port aux Basques officiated by Father Lee Lainey of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church. Interment to follow at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Barachois Hill, TCH, NL. Flowers are graciously accepted or donations in memory of James can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, 835 Topsail Road, Unit 107, Mount Pearl, NL, A1N 3J6 or the St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Cemetery.
