Obituary of Barbara Jane Mather
MATHER, BARBARA
Peacefully in her 93rd year on July 26, 2019. Barbara was the daughter of the late Fred and Madeline Mather. Her parents ran the Da-Nite Tavern in Stoney Creek for years. She was predeceased by her brothers Don, Bill and Doug. She is survived by many nieces, nephews .and cousins who will remember her fondly. She was an operating room nurse who trained at the General Hospital, Hamilton. Her nursing career included work in Texas, Toronto, Burlington and Hamilton. Her favourite pastime was attending the yearly reunions of her nursing classmates and travelling with these friends. She assisted Dr. Denton Cooley during his pioneering work in heart surgery in Houston. Many will know her from the years she helped her mother run the Maple Leaf Ticket Agency on Gibson Avenue. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Idlewyld Manor. Friends will be received at DONALD V. BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Lake Ave. Dr. in Stoney Creek on Friday August 2, 2019 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service in the Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s name are welcome to the Alzheimer’s Society of Hamilton Halton’s “Remember Me” campaign.
