Russell Michael Richardson
“Papa”
It is with heavy hearts, we announce Russell Michael Richardson passed away at the age of 88 on July 27, 2019 at the V.G in Halifax N.S.
Russ was born March 19th, 1931 and was a lifelong resident of Halifax. He was the son of the late Frances and Inez (MacBurnie) Richardson. He is survived by his loving and endlessly caring wife Fay Delores (Smith) Richardson, his children Michael Richardson and Charlene Richardson, granddaughters Renee (Bruce) Cornyn, Kirsten Richardson (Chris) and Grace Richardson, and great-grandchildren Joshua, Abigail, and Madeleine.
Russ came from a monumental family and is survived by three sisters Hazel, Shirley, Sharon and one brother Frank (Jr). He was predeceased by his sisters: Mary, Theresa, Francis, Jean, Doris, Betty and Diane. In his earlier years he played hockey in the industrial league, for Olands Brewery. He later started playing guitar on a dare and from there that started his lifelong passion for music. Russ started a band titled the Starlites, which further ignited his love for bringing friends, family, and strangers together with the sound of music. In the later years of his life, he continuously volunteered and played at various senior homes across the H.R.M.
In 1956, he took on a new career driving the electric coaches for Nova Scotia Power, after which he transitioned into repairing the coaches, which he found a lot more challenging and gratifying. He would always mention his love for working on cars and I quote “The things I enjoyed most about working on the things… it was a different problem every time” Eventually Russ found himself applying his profound knowledge and skills at Firestone, becoming the Front-End Alignment Specialist, as he was well known for at the formidable Bob MacDonald’s where he worked for twenty-five years. Even until late, he was always willing to lend a hand and his mind. He was the definition of a man, loving, caring, stern, hardworking and resilient.
There will be no visitation, but please join us on Thursday August 8, 2019 from 2-4 at the Sackville Legion for a celebration of Russ’ life. Burial to take place at a later date. For online condolences please visit www.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca
