HENSON: Marlette Louise Henson. It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Marlette Louise Henson. Marlette passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on Sunday, July 21, 2019 in Portage la Prairie Manitoba at the age of 76 years. Marlette was born on September 21, 1942 in Shoal Lake Manitoba. Marlette was the eldest of five children to Mary and Michael Bodnarchuk. Their family grew up in Binscarth Manitoba. After leaving Binscarth to see the world, she attended Brandon University to obtain a teaching degree. After graduating, she went on to teach in Douglas Manitoba as well as God’s Narrows in Northern Manitoba. Marlette later settled in Brandon Manitoba to raise her family of six children with Frank, her husband of 47 years. Marlette enjoyed a great many careers in her life. She was a teacher and tax consultant in Brandon, before moving to Winnipeg in 1989. There she worked with children as an assistant director with various day care centers: Harrow, Little Peoples, and Linden Woods. After her many years of dedicated service to her career, she finally decided to take time for herself and her family. She went on her trip of a lifetime to Portugal and Spain with her two daughters, where she was able to see the Ponta da Piedade, south of Lagos. She enjoyed entertaining and liked to have gatherings at the house where she showed off her talents in the kitchen. She was most happy when all of her family were home to enjoy each other and her amazing cooking, especially during the holidays. Marlette was very active in the church, volunteering to teach Sunday school while playing the piano each Sunday during service. Marlette would also never turn down a chance to play a game of cards with either her children, friends, or especially any of her grandchildren. Along with playing cards, Marlette’s other joy was bowling in her younger years. She was a member of the Thunderbird lanes Friday night “mixed“ league in Brandon and was considered the 200 score queen. Marlette was an avid animal lover and her dogs, Charlie, Bailey, Cooper, and Radar held a special place in her heart. Marlette is survived by her husband Frank, her children: Carmel Smith (Bobby-Joe), Velvet Carlson (Blair Green), Barry (Debie), Scott (Arlene), Jeffery (Ginny), as well as her brothers and sister: Mervin Bodnarchuk, Elaine Taylor (Keith), Greg Bodnarchuk (Kathleen). Marlette also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Lisa-Marie (Neil), Erin, Kristen, Damien, Lukas, Jace, Hope, Jhordan (Jared), Braeden (Kelby), Zackary and two great grandchildren: Bristol and Leelyn. She was also loved and cherished by countless nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She is predeceased by her parents Mary and Michael along with her sister Charlene, and her son Bobby. Public viewing will be held Friday, July 26, 2019 at Brockie Donovan Funeral Home, 332 8th St. Brandon, at 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 26, 2019 at Rosewood Memorial Gardens at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
