With sadness and relief, we announce that Lilly Lewandowski passed away quietly and went home to be with her Lord on July 23, 2019 at the age of 89 years.
Born July 12, 1930 in Waldrode, Poland to Daniel & Emma Schmeichel, Lilly was baptized at 18 years old on April 17, 1949. She immigrated to Canada in 1951, where she met Erwin Lewandowski at a wedding of mutual friends. They married on July 25, 1953 and together raised three children, Elsie, Doris (Dusty) and Mark.
As a daughter of an itinerant pastor, Lilly had a quiet but strong faith that was expressed in many practical ways. She was passionate about serving others, working with Women’s Missionary Fellowship & White Cross, and was a founding member of Northgate Baptist Church. Her hospitality was legendary as she was usually found in the kitchen at church functions, funerals, and weddings, even those where she was a guest. She regularly opened her home to family, friends, and strangers showering them with food and love. Lilly would often seek out others one-on-one, providing a listening ear and always making them feel seen and heard.
She is predeceased by her sisters, Hanna, Lottie (Lorenz), Irmgard; and succeeded by her brother, Daniel (Edith); her husband, Erwin; her children, Elsie, Dusty (Mike) & Mark (Trisha); her grandchildren, Liam and Kalena; and numerous nieces & nephews. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at the Dalhousie unit of Rocky Ridge Retirement Community for their excellent care of Lilly over the past two years.
Funeral Service will be held at Northgate Baptist Church (13208 – 95 Street, Edmonton, AB) on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 1:30pm.
