John Campbell MacDonald Saturday July 13th 2019

MacDonald, John Campbell (Mac) –
Born July 13, 1926 in Port Arthur, Ontario – John was a reserved and caring man, who had a wonderful sense of humor and a great love of his family. He met the love of his life, Norma McKenzie of Fort William, on a blind date at an Air Cadet dance during high school. John served a brief time in the military during WWII and was fortunate that the war came to an end before being stationed overseas. John then married Norma in 1951 and the newlyweds moved to Toronto to start their life together. John graduated from the University of Toronto as a Civil Engineer in 1952 and worked with Imperial Oil Limited his whole career retiring in 1987. He was a loving husband who was happily married to Norma for 64 years, she passed away peacefully in July 2015. Together they had 5 loving children; Glenn (Barbara), Karen (Gordon), Jamie (Helen), Ian (Cindy), and Greg (Brenda).
John was a dedicated father seeing that his children participated in sports, arts, community clubs and the outdoors. He was a coach, manager and proud supporter of all his children’s activities. Family vacations were always a special time and road trips to Port Arthur, Fort William, Red Rock, Nipigon and Stewart Lake to visit grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles and family friends were filled with lifetime experiences and memories for his children. Though he was a strict man with high expectations, he was always fair, supportive and proud of his children’s achievements.
John passed away peacefully and comfortably on his 93rd birthday on Saturday, July 13th in Whitby, Ontario. Both John and Norma are now looking down on us all, proud of the life they had together, the loving family they raised and the precious grandchildren/great grandchildren that followed, plus the many wonderful relatives and friends that they shared many good times with. John is survived by his five children and was predeceased by parents Christina and Duncan MacDonald, brother Alexander (Dorothy) and sisters Margaret (Tom) Crompton and Janet Skinner. John will be missed dearly by grandchildren: Andrew (Kate), Katie (Kyle), Alec (Katherine), Stefan, Carly, Christian, Nikolas, Lyndsey, Keira, Curtis, Cameron, Owen, Jacquelyn (Jay), Lauren, and great grandchildren Finn, Pippa, Hudson, Sarah and Ethan. The family would like to thank the staff and management of Taunton Mills Retirement Home in Whitby for their kindness, compassion and wonderful support during John’s final years. Family, relatives and friends will gather in Thunder Bay in the summer of 2020 for internment of Norma and John’s ashes and a celebration of life.
