Joanne’s Obituary
Nickerson, Joanne Paula (née Cunningham), 64, died 23rd June 2019 at Roseway Hospital in Shelburne, Nova Scotia after a battle with cancer. Her private and intimate memorial service was held on 30th June 2019 at South Side Baptist Church. Joanne was born on 24 July 1954 in Shelburne Nova Scotia. She married Blanchard Nickerson on 28 July 1972. A committed and loving mother, she and her husband raised two sons and was a mother figure for her grandson. Joanne worked at a former restaurant in Barrington Passage, Dixie Lee, and at Sable Fish Packers. She was a devoted homemaker, master cook and baker. She was fiercely protective of her family and had a definite stubborn streak. She was also a devoted wife and the solid rock foundation of her family from whom they all derived strength. Every bit the hard worker, like her husband, she worked hard in her home to keep all safe and fed. She is survived by her husband Blanchard Nickerson, two sons, Darren (Toronto, Ontario) and Ian (Elmwood Park, New Jersey), her two grandchildren, Colton (South Side Cape Sable Island, NS) and Despina Ioanna (Elmwood Park, NJ), her daughter-in-law, Kleopatra (Kourouglos), and her mother, Marjorie (Penney) Cunningham (Centreville, Cape Sable Island, NS). The family asks that donations be made to the Rosalin Nickerson Cancer Care Fund. Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington.
