Iris Myrtle Stagles
Iris passed away peacefully, one day before her 105th birthday, at Nicola Lodge in Port Coquitlam.
Predeceased by husband Walter in 1982.
She is survived by daughter Faye, son Barry (Sylvia), 5 granddaughters, Andrea, Roberta, Loraine (Keith), Jennifer (Abraham) & Melissa (Johnny) and 7 great grandchildren John, Joey, Jordan, Jonah, Marco, Mason & Alexa as well many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Born in Youngstown, Alberta to parents William & Belinda. Older sister to Alta, Bill & Harvey.
Their family also lived in Big Valley and Taghum before settling in White Rock.
She moved to Vancouver and worked as a nanny before working at Burns Meats where she met and married Walter Stagles in 1941. After their children were born, she began working at Woolworth’s and retired from there after over 25 years of service. Iris & Wallie raised their family in her beloved Kitsilano where she lived for over 70 years.
During her many years in Kits she was very involved with, and made many friends in, the “Tweenagers” at Kitsilano United Church. She loved to travel and visited many parts of the world including Europe, Russia, Africa, Australia and the USA.
For many years, until age 96, she bowled in 2 leagues at Varsity Ridge Lanes as well as being a dedicated volunteer with the Kitsilano Showboat and Meals on Wheels.
She moved to Maple Ridge in 2010, living independently at Greystone Manor until the age of 102. In December 2016, after an 11 week stay in Ridge Meadows Hospital she moved to Nicola Lodge in Port Coquitlam as she required a higher level of care.
We would like to thank the staff at Greystone Manor, where she resided for 6 years, for their care & love.
A heartfelt “Thank You” to the staff of Nicola Lodge (Sockeye & Belcarra) who so lovingly cared for her during her almost 3 year stay.
