Helene Isabelle Corey
1926-2019
Helene Isabelle (Christie) Corey of Harvey Station, NB passed away
peacefully at the DECH on July 24, 2019 after a brief illness. Born on
August 14, 1926 at Christie Ridge, NB, she was the daughter of Cecil
and Frances (Kyle) Christie and the loving wife of Ersel Corey, who
predeceased her in 1972. Along with her parents and husband she was
predeceased by her sisters, Charlotte Lord, Beatrice Skala and Dorothy
Goode and a brother, Jack Christie.
She leaves twelve children: Susan Corey (Leo Burns), Richard Corey
(Sandra), Heather Thorburn (Jim), Robert Corey (Kim), Wendy Davis
(Richard), Beth Corey (Mark Jardine), Mark Corey (Kim), Janet Blair
(Stuart), Darrell Corey, Martyn Corey, Andrea McMullin (David),
Beverley Corey (Kim Yi Lee) and two sisters, Christine Reid of
Milltown, NB and Carol Little (Lawrence) of Woodstock, NB; several
nieces and nephews.
It is likely only those who lived it will understand the strength and
courage it took to be a single parent of 12 children at the age of 46.
She was uncompromising in her belief in her children and willing to
take on anyone who stood in their way. It was inspiring to watch in
later years as she became a mentor and a friend to her grandchildren
and great grandchildren. They will be her greatest legacy.
Nanny Helene will be lovingly remembered by her 17 precious
grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. They were the joy of her
life and each one special. Her face would light up whenever one of
them arrived for a visit. In past year, although unable to get out to
enjoy spending time with others, Mom loved keeping in touch with
family and friends on her trusty iPad.
Special thanks for the kindness and care shown to Mom by the nurses
and doctors of 4NW at the DECH, Dr. Fletcher, Harvey Outreach workers
and Nancy Costello.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Friday, July 26, 2019 at Swan
Funeral Chapel, 1826 Route 3, Harvey Station, NB. The funeral will be
held on Saturday, July 27 at 2 pm at St. Andrews United Church,
Harvey Station, NB with Reverend Christine Johnson officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Cherry Mountain Cemetery.
Donations to charity of donor’s choice is suggested by the
family.
