It is with heavy hearts and beautiful memories that the
family announce the death of
Gerard Currie at Cape Breton Regional Hospital with loving
family at his side.
Born in Beaver Cove, Cape Breton on January 18th, 1953, he
was the son of the late Michael and Mary Catherine (MacMullin)
Currie.
He was a son, brother, husband and Papa with both family and
extended family, The Currie’s, The Chabassol’s,
and The Williams, being very significant in his life. Gerard will
always be remembered for his jovial disposition, his love of life with
always a twinkle in his eye.
He is survived by his wife, Kaye (Williams) Currie, his sons,
Vincent and Michael (Amy), his daughters, Aundrea (Chris Thomson),
Seanna Colbourne (Shawn), Nicole (Shawn Frazee); and his precious
Grandchildren, Emma, Peyton, Lane, Paige, Emily, Courtney, Brooke and
Adam, all of whom he treasured so much.
Gerard is also survived by his brothers John Thomas,
«Tommie» (Jo-Anne) and Herbert,
«Herbie» (Heather) and sisters Ann Marie (John
«Sonny» Leslie) and Jeannine (John MacLean). Sisters-in-law;
Annette Currie, Lucy Currie and brother-in-law, James
Gardiner.
Gerard also leaves behind, and will be sadly missed by many
nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, who all cherished him
dearly.
Gerard was predeceased by his first wife Cathy (Chabassol),
brothers Michael, Peter and sister-in-law Lorraine, Donald, Ronald
(Rannie) and sister Mary Gardiner.
He also leaves behind his 30 Maple Ridge Family, where he and
Kaye have lived for many years.
Gerard had been employed with the Michelin Tire
Company early in his working career. On many occasions Gerard, with
his distinctive voice would be heard playing his guitar and singing
musical favorites- unforgettable memories.
Gerard sustained injuries through a car accident in 2003,
which left him paralyzed. His acceptance of his injuries, was an
inspiration to many who had suffered similar injuries as he was
readily able to communicate and be a positive role model through
motivational speaking, technology and displaying his positive approach
to his new way of living.
The family wishes to express thanks to the VON and
Home Care support for their compassionate care which made
Gerard’s living at home with family possible.
During his final days, the family is most appreciative of the
superb care from the ICU staff at the Cape Breton Regional
Hospital.
«Not time, not space, nor even death will keep
us from our ‘brother.’ We’ll carry him
within our hearts today and then forever.»
Visitation for Gerard will be 4:00 pm-7:00 pm
on Monday, July 15th, 2019 in Sydney Memorial Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 16th at
Holy Rosary Church in Westmount with Father Doug Murphy
officiating.
Interment will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in Gerard’s Memory
to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital ICU or Charity of one’s
choice.
