On June 19, 2019, Mother Nature took our beloved 13-year-old son, Tai Caverhill, away from us on a windy day in Sooke. Tai’s tragic death has devastated all who knew and loved him but the shining light of his kind heart will not be extinguished. Tai was born in Victoria, BC, Canada on September 30th, 2005 to Graham and Boom Caverhill. Tai was just about to complete Grade 8 and was looking forward to starting his next phase of life at Oak Bay High in September.
He was a bright, energetic boy who walked before he crawled and, at the completion of Grade 5, received the Andrea Borowicz Award for School Spirit and involvement in all school activities at Ecole Quadra Elementary. Even his parents had no idea that he had participated in every school activity in addition to his extracurricular sports and duties. Most notably, he was kind and helpful to all the other students, something that continued to his last breath.
Tai made numerous trips to his mother’s family farm in Thailand, where he learned fishing and farming skills and partook in the local customs and rituals of the Thai Buddhist community. In 2018, he and his mother travelled to England to see the sights and visit Auntie Boong and Uncle Shaun in Brighton.
Tai was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Gum and Kamyard and his paternal grandfather Jack. Tai is survived by his parents, Boom and Graham, his younger sister, Lanna, Grandmother Donnie, Uncles John and Shaun, Aunties Lindsay and Boong, cousins Justin and Mikheila along with many Canadian and Thai relatives.
A service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC at 2:00 p.m. Viewing from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TSC Canada. www.tscanada.ca/donate-now/
